Stephanie L. Haney is the owner and CEO of Steel City Behavioral Health, LLC which opened it’s doors in September 2007.

Stephanie holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavioral Analysis from Colorado University, Denver in December 2012.

She culminated her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia in May 2000.

Her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Minor in Women’s Studies was earned from Colorado State University, Pueblo in May 1997.

Professional Experience

Stephanie grew up in Pueblo, Colorado. She began her career as a Mental Health Worker III at Spanish Peaks Mental Health Center in Pueblo, Colorado (currently Health Solutions) at the newly opened Acute Treatment Unit (ATU) providing emergency crisis evaluations and response to chronically mentally ill adults from May 1997 through August 1998. Additionally, volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for sexually abused children as well as being a Board Member for the Pueblo Child Advocacy Center from January 1997 through August 1998.

Moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to further her education, she interned with the Philadelphia Department of Humas Services as a child abuse investigator from September 1998 to May 1999. She also interned as a lobbyist for child welfare legislation in Washington DC for the Child Welfare League of America from September 1999 to December 1999.

She served as an Intern Board Member for the Camden County of Economic Opportunity from January 2000 through May 2000 corroborating with community members in Camden, NJ strategically planning economic development and new housing initiatives along with implementing neighborhood safety awareness.

From May 2000 to November 2001 she was a Research Assistant with the Memory Disorders Clinic at the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with Dr. Jason Karlawish researching “Decision Making: Caregivers or Patient”. Stephanie conducted mental status exams and transcribed over 250 interviews analyzing qualitative and quantitative research on Alzheimer's patients and caregivers.

During her time in Philadelphia and once she earned her Master in Social Work, she became a Behavior Consultant for the Core Team Adult MR Behavioral Health Program with Northwestern Human Services from October 2000 to September 2002 implementing behavior interventions programs to developmentally and intellectually disabled adults.

She moved back to Colorado for a short time from September 2002 to May 2003 and acquired a position as a Detention-Based Mental Health Clinician with the Turn About Program at Mount View Detention Center, through Jefferson County for Mental Health. She provided crisis intervention, individual and family therapy to youth in juvenile detention, assessed mental health needs and made recommendations to the court for community and home based placements to include substance abuse profiles.

Returning to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Stephanie worked for Community Council for MH/MR, Inc. from May 2003 through August 2007 as a Clinical Supervisor, Administrator of School Based Behavioral Health Services, and as a Behavior Specialist Consultant and Mobile Therapist in the Wrap Around Program.

She returned to her home in Pueblo Colorado in September 2007 and opened Steel City Behavioral Health, LLC.

Gil Sanchez Mission Award

Stephanie Haney of Steel City Behavioral Health, LLC. was the recipient of the 2013 Gil Sanchez Mission Award. This award recognizes outstanding individuals in the community who are making amazing contributions to the mental health community.

The award is through the Mental Health America of Pueblo who strive to eliminate the stigma of mental illness and to increase access to treatment through education, advocacy, and research development. To receive this award, one must “have made a significant achievement or advancement in the mental health field through treatment, advocacy, policy, exemplary program models, or through professional standards. Such achievement should be reflected in positive improvements in the mental health field.”

Outstanding Agency Supervisor

Stephanie Haney was nominated for the Outstanding Supervisor Award from Colorado State University, Pueblo’s Department of Social Work May 2024. This award could not have been possible without Steel City Behavioral Health’s excellent team of outstanding professionals who have been instrumental in my success.
